Ultem 2300 PEI in extruded Seamless Tube® is now part of the Drake Plastic’s product line. This unique solution is designed to help customers lean out existing parts that are machined from Rod and to make the selection of Ultem 2300 for new applications more attractive. Other Ultem grades such as Ultem 2100, 2200, 2400 and Bearing Grades Ultem 4000 and 4001 are also available in Seamless Tube as well as Rod and Plate and finished parts on a made-to-order basis.
Machined Ultem 2300 parts from Drake extruded Seamless Tube are literally hammer-tough. The low stress delivered by our Seamless Tube process enables very tight tolerances to be machined and maintained. And low stress contributes to part toughness.
Ultem 2300’s 24-hour moisture absorption is only .16%, and only 0.9% at saturation. This makes dimensional control over long periods of time in wet environments easier to maintain with Ultem 2300 parts, and they can withstand hot water and even steam. Low moisture uptake and the ability to sterilize with hot water and steam contribute to Ultem 2300’s NSF-51 listing for food and beverage equipment, allowing direct contact with potable beverages and foodstuffs.
Ultem 2300 PEI is inherently flame resistant and low smoke generating and is UL94 V0 and 5VA listed. With a Tg of 217 C/ 422 F, Ultem 2300 remains strong and stiff at temperatures that make most other plastic useless. The excellent thermal resistance of unreinforced Ultem PEI is augmented by the 30% glass fiber reinforcement in the Ultem 2300 grade which increases its thermal conductivity, enabling heat to be dissipated about 25% faster than through unreinforced Ultem 1000 PEI. The glass fiber reinforcement also reduces thermal expansion and increases strength and stiffness.
