DRAKE 4645 PAI: Previously available as Torlon® 4645 PAI
Exceptional Bearing and Wear Resistance in Externally Lubricated Applications
A high-performance bearing and wear-resistant material, Drake 4645 PAI offers comparable performance and quality in machinable shapes, injection molded components and machined parts as those previously produced by Drake from Torlon® 4645 PAI.
Previously supplied by Syensqo (Solvay), Torlon® 4645 served niche markets with modest production volumes. Syensqo’s decision to discontinue the resin included a plan to maintain its availability for legacy and new customers. Working collaboratively, Syensqo provided Torlon PAI resin powders to Drake Plastics to compound the 4645 grade and continue its supply as Drake 4645 PAI in machinable stock shapes and injection molded parts.
Drake 4645 PAI has the same composition in the same ratios as Syensqo’s prior Torlon 4645 grade. It is made and sold with the same certification of compliance as Torlon 4645, with Drake Plastics issuing the COC. The Syensqo-Drake collaboration enables the ongoing and economical availability of shapes and parts comparable to Torlon 4645 PAI on performance and quality.
Key properties of Bearing and Wear Resistant Drake 4645 PAI (polyamide-imide
While similar in overall performance to Drake 4630, the proprietary PTFE lubricant and carbon fiber formulation in Drake 4645 gives it exceptional bearing and wear resistance specifically in externally lubricated equipment components.
Most notably, Drake 4645 has the lowest wear rate under dynamic load at all velocities in applications where external lubrication is used for heat dissipation. It maintains its ranking as the best performing bearing and wear PAI grade in lubricated applications even at high PV conditions, where components made from Drake 4645 have survived PVs of 600,000 psi-ft/min (>20 MPa-m/s).
