Drake 4630 PAI: Previously Available as Torlon 4630 PAI
Highest Wear Resistance of Any Torlon PAI or Drake PAI in Non-Lubricated Applications
Drake 4630 PAI is a high-performance bearing and wear-resistant material that offers comparable performance and quality in machinable shapes, injection molded components and machined parts as those previously produced by Drake from Torlon® 4630 PAI.
Previously supplied by Syensqo (Solvay), Torlon® 4630 served niche markets with modest production volumes. Syensqo’s decision to discontinue the resin included a plan to maintain its availability for legacy and new customers. Working collaboratively, Syensqo provided Torlon PAI resin powders to Drake Plastics to compound the 4360 grade and continue its supply as Drake 4630 PAI in machinable stock shapes and injection molded parts.
Drake 4630 PAI has the same composition in the same ratios as Syensqo’s prior Torlon 4630 grade. It is made and sold with the same certification of compliance as Torlon 4630, with Drake Plastics issuing the COC. The Syensqo-Drake collaboration enables the ongoing and economical availability of shapes and parts comparable to Torlon 4630 PAI on performance and quality.
Key properties of Bearing and Wear Resistant Drake 4630 PAI (polyamide-imide)
Drake 4630 PAI contains a proprietary combination of PTFE lubricant and graphite that delivers the highest level of wear resistance in non-lubricated dynamic load-bearing applications of any PAI bearing and wear grade of polyamide-imide. It stands out from other wear resistant Torlon PAI and Drake PAI grades with the best resistance to wear at all velocities greater than 100 feet (30.48 meters) per minute and performs well at PVs in excess of 150,000 psi-FPM (5.2 MPa-m/s). It can also help ensure reliability of critical equipment components in lubricated systems should the lubrication process temporarily fail.
Its high strength makes Drake 4630 PAI a good candidate for load-bearing applications, and its toughness at temperature extremes is an asset especially for components that must function reliably under cryogenic conditions. Like all Drake and Torlon PAI grades, Drake 4630 PAI has the highest Tg (glass-transition or softening temperature) under load of any melt-processable plastic.
